The Wyomissing Fire Department serves the Borough of Wyomissing and surrounding communities with a commitment to professionalism, reliability, and public safety. Operating 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, our department provides fire suppression, rescue services, emergency medical response, and fire prevention to protect the people and property within our response area.
As a combination department, we are staffed by both career and volunteer firefighters who bring a wide range of experience, training, and dedication to every call. This model allows us to maintain consistent coverage while fostering strong community involvement and pride in service. Our personnel are trained to handle a diverse range of emergencies, from structure fires and vehicle accidents to alarms, hazardous conditions, and public service calls.
In 2025, the department responded to nearly 1,900 incidents. Our response areas include Wyomissing Borough as well as several mutual aid responses. Whether operating within the borough or assisting surrounding communities, we take pride in being a dependable and collaborative public safety resource.
Beyond emergency response, the Wyomissing Fire Department is committed to community engagement and prevention. We actively participate in public education programs, fire safety initiatives, and outreach efforts aimed at reducing risk and keeping residents informed and prepared.

The Wyomissing Fire Department in Berks County, Pennsylvania, reflects the borough’s evolution from a mill-based community to a modern suburban hub. Wyomissing’s early growth was closely tied to its large textile mills, which drove population increases and created the need for organized fire protection in the early 1900s.
As industry expanded, so did the demand for more structured emergency services. The department traces its roots to early volunteer fire companies that served the community throughout the 20th century, and in 1992, the modern department was officially formed through the merger of Wyomissing Fire Company No. 1 and Berkshire Heights Volunteer Fire Company No. 2, combining resources and personnel to better serve a growing borough.
Today, it operates as a combination career and volunteer department, providing fire suppression, rescue, emergency medical response, fire prevention, and community outreach services. It now protects a community that has transitioned from its industrial textile roots into a center of commercial development and modern infrastructure, including business districts, healthcare facilities, residential neighborhoods, and major transportation corridors, while continuing its long-standing commitment to protecting life and property.
